Meet the Coach
Eric Hamner
Head Cross Country (XC) Coach
I am excited to be coaching XC at MCS. Cross country is a lifelong sport that is used in the Bible in reference to discipline, perseverance, character building, and keeping your eyes on the prize (eternal), to run and not grow weary, and to finish the race. I have had the privilege of being able to be involved in many sports but I have been able to run in college, semi-professionally, and now use those giftings to coach and help others reach their potential.
I ran XC and Track in middle school, high school in Central Ohio, Watkins Memorial (5x state qualifier, District runner of the year, several records and the HOF), College Scholarship at Division II Tiffin University (5 time National qualifier, 8 school records, HOF), and for Columbus Running Company. I have been able to compete all over the U.S. because of the opportunities God has provided in Track and XC. I have coached 8 years at the college level (46 National qualifiers), including 4 years as the Head track and field and XC coach at Ohio Christian University (13 All-Americans, RSC Champions and coach of the year), and 11 years at the high school level with over 70 state qualifiers, 85 school records, 8 state qualifying teams, and a state championship. I have been extremely blessed to do something I love and that God has gifted me in as a ministry to grow student-athletes physically, mentally, and spiritually.
I have a wonderful wife, Carrie, and 4 children, Sawyer (7), Miles (5), June (4), and River (17 months). I love spending time with them, working outdoors, playing sports, camping, and watching movies.
